Pregnancy Essentials: The second trimester

The second trimester is a favorite of many, myself included. I had more energy, my skin was clearer than it had even been in childhood and I was starting to feel the baby move, which meant it was all starting to sink in. (Although, that meant I was elated one minute and having full-on freak outs the next, ah hormones.)

Pregnancy Essentials: The second trimester

Here’s what helped me through:

Snacks: All of a sudden, I was constantly starving. I packed my desk at work with goodies – crackers, nuts and usually something sweet.

Belly Band: I was able to stretch my pre-pregnancy wardrobe a lot further because of this three inch piece of stretch fabric. I picked mine up at Target, but there are lots of DIYs out there if you want to make your own.

Coconut Oil: Even though there is no proof that using oil/belly butters or any sort of stretch mark cream, will prevent them, I found that rubbing my growing belly everyday with coconut oil at least kept the dry skin away. I would use it after a shower or bath before drying off – the water helped move the oil around on my skin and it didn’t become too oily.

Decaf tea: I started drinking raspberry tea at night because it supposedly helps strengthen the uterus and pelvic floor. I was all about doing anything I could to prepare for labor and delivery. Plus, it was a nice way to relax.

And a few of the things from my first trimester like ice cold water and books (this time, Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Newborn along with Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering.)
