According to a recent news report by CBS, Maine ranks #12 for best breast-feeding states in the country, just behind Minnesota.

The rankings appear to be based solely off of percentage of moms still breast-feeding at 12 months. In Maine, that’s 27.6, based on data provided by the Centers for Disease Control. Nearby Vermont came in at #1 with 39 percent of moms still breast-feeding after a year.

The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breast-feeding up to six months of age with continued breastfeeding alongside food up to 2-years-old and beyond.

Several breast-feeding support groups exist throughout Maine. Check out my story about support groups for families for more information.
Did you or do you breast-feed your baby? How long were you able to do so?
