Maine public housing programs to receive more than $400,000 in grants

Low income individuals and families throughout Maine may see a boost in programs designed to help them build marketable skills and find employment, thanks to a grant from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

According to a press release from the offices of Sen. Susan Collins and Sen. Angus King, several housing authorities and municipalities statewide will receive more than $400,000. The money is designated to help public housing residents in the Housing Choice Voucher Program increase their education and gain skills for finding employment or advancing at current jobs.

“Public housing authorities in Maine play an indispensable role in helping some of our most vulnerable citizens find safe and affordable housing,” Collins and King said in a joint statement. “This funding will support individuals and families across our state by connecting them with a range of vital services such as job training.”

The Maine grant recipients are as follows:

Augusta Housing Authority, $32,213

Bangor Housing Authority, $22,362
