5 minute Valentine’s Day project for mess-loving kids

If I know one thing about small children, it’s that messier is usually better. And I’m all for messy, especially when it comes to art. In my mind, art is not about the end product as much as it is about the process.

I don’t want my daughter’s first experience with art to be coloring in the lines of a coloring book in kindergarten. As a result, we do a lot of “big art” in our house. Art that requires baby be stripped down to her diaper and the sink full of sudsy water to wash up in afterwards.

This project is so easy, it barely needs a tutorial. But here’s one anyway:

Supplies:
Washable paint

Paper (I glued mine to cardboard for extra strength)

Tape

Instructions:

Use the tape to create a design on the paper. Let your child go to town with the paint, mixing colors and squishing it around. Leave the piece to dry, remove the tape and expose the design you created. Voila! The perfect Valentine for someone special.
