When the two little lines appeared on the white pregnancy test stick all those months ago, one thought stuck out in my mind – I wanted this little child, still barely formed, to know Maine and to love the Maine woods.
Since moving here two years ago, Maine has stolen our hearts. We spend summer canoeing, winter snowshoeing and fall harvesting apples and rolling in leaf piles.
So at 2 months, The Girl was summiting mountains. At 7 months, she was floating on a surfboard at Old Orchard Beach and at 8 months she was swimming in Sergeant Lake.
This past weekend we added another activity. We took her snowshoeing – mostly to put her new, Kelty Tour 1.0 Child Carrier to the test. We bought the carrier a few weeks ago at Epic Sports in Bangor and after a failed attempt to take it backcountry snowboarding, we were due to give it another go.
At first I thought we were headed toward disaster when we arrived at the Bangor City Forest, and realized we forgot both a bag for dog waste and a pacifier for The Girl.
But I found crumpled chip bag in the parking lot and my husband tracked down a binkie hidden underneath the passenger seat, so we were off.
The pack was awesome. It has plenty of storage space for water bottles, jackets and snacks. The Girl was so comfortable she ended up falling asleep no less than 20 minutes after we started. And the pack’s waist strap and padded shoulders make it quite comfortable to wear.
I foresee many more adventures and a lot more introduction to the Maine outdoors in our family’s future.
In case you were curious, I was not compensated for this post in any way, I just love the outdoors and our new kiddo carrier!
