‘Explosive’ Tony Award winning musical heads to Orono

The National Broadway Tour of the Tony Award winning musical “Memphis” will make a stop in Orono later this month for one night of “explosive dancing and electrifying songs.”
Inspired by events in the underground dance clubs of 1950s Memphis, Tenn., the musical tells the story of DJ Huey Calhoun and club singer Felicia Farrell. According to a press release “He wants to change the world. She is ready for her big break.”But they both want racial tensions in the south to end.

Starring Daniel Hines and Zuri Washington, the musical will also feature music by Bon Jovi keyboardist David Bryan.
